A reedição contém 11 faixas do álbum originalmente datado de 1985 e ainda 14 maquetas, trabalhadas enquanto preparavam o lançamento do álbum original, intituladas de “The Athens Demos”.
Apesar dos R.E.M. também já terem reeditado o primeiro e o segundo álbuns, “Mumur” e “Reckoning”, o guitarrista Peter Buck considera este como o seu favorito. “Fico muito orgulhoso da sonoridade estranha deste disco. Ninguém, além dos R.E.M., poderia ter feito este registo”, escreve Buck na capa do novo trabalho discográfico.
O novo “Fables of the Reconstruction” traz um tema inédito, Throw Those Trolls, algumas notas de Peter Buck, postais e um poster.
